Bob Craig first visited Traverse City in 1976, after graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelors degree. He fell in love with Traverse City and invited his fiancé, Claudia to join him and start a family

A passion for woodworking and a love of the construction process were instrumental in the decision to form Craig Builders in 1981. The company philosophy has always revolved around two core principles. First, to provide a home that blends with its surroundings and is uniquely suited to the needs of its owners. Second, to find the perfect combination of style, durability, and value. Over the years, close working relationships with the areas best subcontractors and suppliers have provided the perfect opportunity to learn the right combination of ingredients to provide optimum value for your home.

We are very proud of the fact that we have been using energy efficient building materials and techniques long before it became fashionable to be a “green” builder. We also place great emphasis on taking care of the details necessary to make your house weather tight and safe- increasingly important benefits with today’s new building materials and the concerns with indoor air quality and healthy environments.

Although our specialty is lakefront living, we have participated in a wide range of construction activities. Projects completed to date range from major renovations of an Old town Traverse City bungalow, to a Subway restaurant interior build out, to design/build services for a 4500 square foot lakeside home.
